To Whom it Concern:

Cankerworm Season Is Almost  Here.
In anticipation of this year’s infestation of the cankerworm, the Myers Park Homeowners Association is planning a Cankerworm Seminar that will be held at Myers Park Methodist Church.   Jack McNeary formally of McNeary Arborists Inc. and an expert on the cankerworm problem will be the speaker.  The seminar is planned on October 27th and will start at 11:00am with a program and slides illuminating things about the cankerworm that you need to know if you want to control them in your yard and protect your trees.  Myers Park Methodist Church is at the intersection of Providence Road and Queens Road.  Please park on either side of Queens Road and enter the back of the church into the new Family Life Center.  There will be directions posted to the correct room.
Jack has studied and tracked the cankerworms progress since it first became a problem to Charlotte after Hurricane Hugo in 1989.  He is convinced that if we monitor the traps throughout the season from Thanksgiving to early April, we can protect our trees.
After the lecture, the demonstration will continue outside and instruction on how to correctly apply the “cankerworm traps” will be shown on one of the many oaks on the church grounds.  He will also demonstrate how to maintain the traps throughout the migration season.  There also will be discussion of the various methods that can be used effectively to control the insects.

Materials for resale:
Bartlett Tree Expert Company has agreed to cut up 30 rolls of tar paper for us to use for the cankerworm trap.  This material will be given to free to senior citizens who live in the Myers Park neighborhood.  The rest will be sold to Myers Park residences at a little over cost until we run out.  At the meeting we will explain more about where to purchase other materials.

Refreshments:
We will have free soft drinks and light snacks at the outside program.

Please plan to attend this very important seminar and learn how you can make a difference in controlling this very devastating nuisance.  Other Charlotte neighborhood associations around Myers Park are also invited, and we would like to have an approximate number of those planning to attend.

Head Count:

We need to know how many people will be attending.   In Myers Park, contact your Area Leader.  The Area Leaders will in turn contact the Area Leader Coordinator .  In other neighborhoods, please contact the person who organizes your e-mail list.
